AceInfo is currently seeking a Data Base Administrator III (Data Manager)  to support our federal project, in Norman, OK

 

 

Project Overview:

 

The National Severe Storms Lab is a Federal agency focusing on world-class weather research related to the initialization and development of severe weather. Ace Info Solutions currently provides IT-related services which are an integral part to the success of NSSL’s mission. An overview of services includes DNS/DHCP administration, multi-platform (Linux, Windows, and Apple) server and desktop support, Active Directory administration, hardware technical support, and data center management

 

Position Description:

 

NSSL is wanting to add Data Management Support to the current NSSL Contract.

 

An experienced, hands-on Data Manager, will be expected to work directly with end-users in conjunction with Systems Administrators to ensure organizational adherence to government mandated data policies.

 

Requires the ability to solve issues independently and work with other administrators to guarantee transfer of knowledge of work through both written and oral communication. BS/BA degree (or equivalent), plus 4 years in related field.

 

  1. Understand, through customer interviews, the data manipulation processes in use.
  2. Effect efficient ways to organize, store and analyze data with attention to security and confidentiality.
  3. Create queries to search and catalog online and archived data sets.
  4. Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Support customers in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to government policies.
  6. Monitor and analyze information and data systems and evaluate their performance to discover ways of enhancing them (new technologies, upgrades etc.).
  7. Ensure digital databases and archives are protected from security breaches and data losses by following industry best practices and government policy.
  8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  9. Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution, etc.)
  10. Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies
  11. Ensure Federal data standards are applied, where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full review of data usage by NSSL scientists including its collection, retrieval, manipulation, archive and distribution
  • Manage all data types by developing a central data repository to facilitate on demand search and retrieval
  • Assist with creating archival policies and ensure data is maintained according to usage guidelines.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of database architecture and design to create a central catalog of scientific data used for weather research. Data received may include (but not limited to) satellite, radar, model, upper air, and surface from the NWS on a regular basis and data collected irregularly by NSSL researchers using meteorological observation equipment
  • The position is expected to provide assistance to scientists by facilitating the organizing, archiving, processing, and retrieving data sets in an organized manner
  • Provide Database Administrator (DBA) support for existing data software systems
  • Manage real-time LDM data feeds by acting as a point of contact, taking corrective action to service disruptions, and plan for future resources needed
  • Serve as a point of contact for the data catalog system, maintain the system, and integrate software updates into the system
  • Provide support to extend capabilities of data catalog system by assisting with the software development efforts to subset, extract, convert, and browse datasets
  • Provide technical support for data collection and quality control tasks. Guide the efforts of student assistants or co-workers towards this end
  • Maintain special archives (e.g., the lightning data archive)
  • Provide support for Special Projects, such as the creation of an auto-archive data system to be used during field programs and routine archival events
  • Administer data management practices per NOAA Information Quality Guidelines, the EDMC Data Documentation Procedural Directive, the NOAA Administrative Order 212-15, and the NOAA Procedure for Scientific Records Appraisal and Archive Approval

Qualifications

 

  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent) in Information Systems
  • 2 to 4 years experience in related field
  • Understand relational database
  • Local Data Manager (LDM)
  • Understand different backup schemas or methodologies
  • Work creatively using general guidelines or examples as templates
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions provided in various forms (written, oral or diagram)
  • Strong communication skills: written, verbal, comprehension

  • U.S. Citizen is required for the position. Candidate must successfull pass a Federal Background Investigation. 
  • Public Trust Clearance or the ability to obtain one
